28th NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Topeka, Kansas Heartland Park Topeka 5th

Last Saturday night saw Billy Robison take home the win in the modified division at HPT. Justin Boney picked up a heat race win after starting on the pole. As he pulled out for the feature event, the shifter linkage to the transmission broke. As the crew repaired it quickly leaving Justin with only high gear, he started the feature a straightaway behind the field in 27th position. He slowly worked his way through traffic and eventually moved into the 5th position which is where he would finish. The top 5 were Billy Robison followed by Mike Taylor, Tim Karrick, Gene Claxton, and Justin Boney. After 2 races Justin is 12th in the unofficial point standings.

27th NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Kansas City, Kansas Lakeside Speedway 2nd

In the second week of action at Lakeside Speedway, Mark Dotson took home the feature win. Justin started 4th row outside in his heat race and ran a close 2nd to Joey Kates. A 2nd place finish in his heat was good enough to start him inside the 2nd row for the evening's feature event. During a caution-marred feature, Justin moved into 2nd and ran down Mark Dotson as the two would finish neck and neck at the line. Rounding out the top 5 were Tom Charles, Kerry Davis, and Billy Robison. Through 2 weeks Justin sits 2nd in unofficial point standings behind Tom Charles.

21st NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Topeka, Kansas Heartland Park Topeka DNF

In the first night of competition at the new Heartland Park Topeka Raceway, 26 modifieds checked in for the racing action which saw Billy Robison take home the top prize. Justin ran 2nd in his heat coming from the 3rd row. He would start the feature outside the 3rd row and as the race started he quickly made his move into the 3rd position and was coming fast at the leaders as the starter wire fell off which in turn caused a DNF. Justin said the car was very fast and he really enjoys the track. Hopefully we'll see him in victory lane this Saturday! Hope to see you there!!!

Justin picked up a top five finish in the 2001 season opener at Lakeside Speedway. He started 3rd in the feature and ran 4th for quite a while until he finally caught up to C.J. Lyle, but then a lap car held him up allowing Tom Charles to move around Justin at the end of the race.

13th and 15th Frostbuster Modified Invitational Kansas City, Kansas Lakeside Speedway $3,000 2nd

The first annual Frostbuster Modified Invitational at Lakeside Speedway took place this past Easter weekend! The event was a success and brought a good car count and as always, a great crowd. The weekend's racing action kicked off on Friday night with first round qualifying. After rain cancelled Saturday night's event, the finale was pushed back to Sunday afternoon. Luckily, mother nature held off to allow completion for this year's Frostbuster. When it was all said and done, Clint Bowyer of Emporia, Kansas drove his #79 Harris Auto Racing chassis to victory lane and brought home a pleasing $3,000 award.

Once again, Justin Boney qualified during the first round of qualifying. However, the circumstances made his 5th place effort somewhat erratic. In Friday's heat race, Justin started inside the 3rd row and finished a disappointing 5th place. Therefore, he would have to transfer through one of two B features. He started 5th row outside and managed a 2nd place finish to eventual Frostbuster Champion, Clint Bowyer, in the evening's first B feature. However, he had a tough go of it as Kerry Davis (Kansas City, Missouri) and him got together with a few laps to go which cut Justin's right rear tire down. Justin bounced around for the remaining laps and transferred to the A-main scramble. He started the scramble inside row 6 and got into a big mess which tore up much of his body at the beginning of the race. Things never did settle down as only 7 cars managed to finish Friday's feature event. As cars dropped out, Justin just rode around to a 5th place finish which put him inside the 3rd row for Sunday's finale.

Sunday's feature event lined up many of the Midwest's top modified drivers to duel for 30 laps and $3,000. On the pole sat Friday night's feature winner, Mark Dotson of Cameron, Missouri and to his outside was "The Kid" Clint Bowyer. As the race got under way, the field up front remained much the same throughout with very good, close competition. Kelly Shryock of Lamars, Iowa started 8th and worked his way into the top 5 very quickly. After moving into the top 5 and vying for position with Justin Boney, Shryock spun coming out of turn 4 and would finish a disappointing 14th. On a dry and dusty race track, the front runners turned lap after lap sometimes two-wide the whole circuit. The man who made his move in a big way was Kerry Davis who started 25th and ran to a strong 10th place finish. As the laps wound down, Justin Boney staged a strong run at Clint Bowyer but ran out of time as Clint managed another Lakeside win in very fine fashion. Justin settled for a 2nd place finish and rounding out the top five were Chad Lyle, pole-setter Mark Dotson, and Tim Karrick. Another notable finish was Tom Charles who managed a 7th place run after getting involved in a big wreck on Friday which destroyed his front end.

Here ends another week of racing and yet another top 5 finish for Justin Boney. This coming weekend marks the beginning of the NASCAR points season at both Lakeside Speedway on Friday and Saturday at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kansas. Justin Boney will be competing this weekend and every weekend this season at both tracks in his quest for a NASCAR Regional Points Championship. Come join us in the fun!!! Hope you all had a nice Easter weekend!

6th-8th Kansas Modified Shootout Hutchinson, Kansas Hutchinson Raceway Park $5,000 3rd

The 1st Annual Kansas Modified Shootout promised to be a good one and oh how it was! With a somewhat disappointing field of only 40 modifieds, the racing was still action-packed and the fans definately got their money's worth.

The action kicked off on Friday night with qualifying for the pole position. After completing all the heat races, the feature was cancelled due to rain. Friday's feature was made up on Saturday afternoon and saw Kelly Cross of Texas bring home the feature win followed by our very own Justin Boney. Saturday evening brought about 2nd round qualifying events. Saturday's feature was claimed by #98 Johnny Allen of Chanute, Kansas. Sunday night would conclude this year's Kansas Modified Shootout and saw outside polesitter, Johnny Allen, lead all 40 laps of the feature to take home the top prize. Rounding out the top five were Marc Robe, Justin Boney, Brooke Phillips, and Brian Franz. After a red flag on lap one, the race went green to checkers. Sunday's track proved to be one lane and choppy throughout the turns. However, given the weather and the re-opening of a closed track, the staff and drivers put on a heck of a show!

Justin Boney continued his streak of good showings at HRP. After winning his heat race on Friday by a commanding 3/4 of a lap, he went on to capture a 2nd place finish in the 1st of 2 qualifiers. He would start Sunday's A-main from inside the 2nd row. Although he started in the 2nd row, he had his work cut out for him with the likes of Johnny Allen, Marc Robe, and Kelly Cross looming all around him at the onset of Sunday's feature. After a car flipped on lap one bringing out the red flag, the race continued as Justin Boney settled into 3rd place behind race leader Allen and Marc Robe. The racetrack wasn't very racy and the field fell into single file quickly. As Allen paced the field, the rest of the field could do nothing but follow as the laps winded down. Allen went on to win the 1st Annual Kansas Modified Shootout followed by Marc Robe and Justin Boney.

Although Justin didn't come home with a win, he managed another top 10 finish and the car came home in one piece which is better than most as only 15 cars finished the feature. Coming off a strong performance at HRP, Justin is excited to get back to Lakeside this weekend for this year's edition of the Modified Frostbuster Invitational which pays a handsome $3,000 award to Saturday's A-feature winner. Justin and the crew would love to see you there!!! Check back in a week for results from the FROSTBUSTER!!!

IMCA Spring Nationals Beatrice, Nebraska Beatrice Speedway $5,000 26th

IMCA's call to move this year's edition of the Spring Nationals at Beatrice Speedway back one week proved to be the right move and oh how the stars shined under the crisp, cool early Spring air.

As many fans and drivers predicted, Johnny "The Jet" Saathoff of Beatrice, Nebraska was the one to beat at this year's Spring Nationals. However, Saathoff's quest for the 2001 Spring Nationals title came with a fight...from the walls of Beatrice Speedway. While leading his heat race on Friday night, Saathoff's brand new Jet Mod made hard contact with the outside retaining wall ending his night abruptly. Of course it takes more than a concrete wall to stop the man they call "Jet". He went on to win Saturday's feature event which put him outside the front row for Sunday's big main event. He went on to win his 2nd Spring Nationals event and cashed in a nice $5,000 paycheck.

Justin's quest for this year's Spring Nationals crown started off very well. After running 3rd place in his heat race on Friday night, he moved on to a B-main which he walked away with. He started 18th in Friday's pole dash and had a very strong run coming home in the 5th position. Therefore, Justin earned a spot for Sunday's A-main inside the 5th row. The race track for Sunday's A-main event was fairly racy with expected ruts in the turns. Justin worked his way into 5th position in the feature and ran a steady pace while Saathoff and Kevin Larkins led the way. With 4 laps to go, the track's ruts bit Justin and flattened his right rear tire which eventually retired him to a 26th place finish.

Although Justin came home with a disappointing finish, he continues to get stronger every week. He is confident that his fortune will turn around this week at Hutchinson Raceway Park in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Kansas Modified Shootout will feature 3 action-packed days of modified racing at its finest and Sunday's A-main winner will take home a $5,000 check. Check back next week for results!!! Congratulations to Johnny "The Jet" Saathoff from Justin Boney Motorsports!!!
